Irish Wedding Traditions Are Lucky Charms

Friday, July 30th, 2010

Wedding is a public event rather than something personal which is bound between the bride and groom. In rare cases, couples bring due honor to their heritage when they start planning their weddings. For instance, if the families of the couple reside from the Emerald Isle they will find it helpful to observe some Irish wedding traditions.

The jewelry, for instance, has been part of the long tradition of Ireland. It symbolizes the start of an engagement as well as the beginning of the marriage. A claddagh ring is a traditional and significant Irish symbol and is always part of a couple’s bridal set. It has three parts; each one of it holds a special meaning. A pair of hands means friendship, a crown for genuine loyalty and a heart for true love. A claddagh is a very prominent option for Irish weddings.

It’s either by just mere belief or it’s because of the work of time, but many Irish wedding traditions are believed to bring up good luck particularly for the couple. Just like for example, if a bride wore her bridal jewelry, particularly her wedding earrings, then it tells that it brings to the bride charm all throughout the day.

Other beliefs also said that the bride should choose the woman who would put on her veil during her wedding. That woman must have a happy marriage. If it happens that rain came pour down during the wedding day, then it is also believed that the couple are lucky for that day.

Even though Catholic weddings are the most widely-practiced for the Irish people, the kind of rite called handfasting is part of the tradition that can promote more on other wedding traditions. “Tie the knot” is originally from the phrase handfasting. In this kind of rite, the bride and the groom would be facing each other with their hands crossed and their feet clasped on their front. Their wrists would be tied with a ribbon and this would symbolize infinity. Many years ago, this kind of rite was done every time people celebrate harvest festival.

Irish people always make their wedding food and drink as part of the major list in the wedding preparations. Specifically, their wedding cakes partake a great role in the wedding. If it happens that there is an absence of a wedding cake during the wedding day, then it wouldn’t be a special celebration at all.

Many Irish people believe that wedding celebrations are very big festive parties in their country. As part of their tradition, things would get started at the reception. Right after the reception, they have an open house invitation to everyone and this would resume the big celebration and the enjoyment. Hosts would be the one to provide the light fare and the kind of music to be played while the guests would be in charged in bringing some Irish whiskies. As the party continues, those young guests could proceed to the club and continue enjoying all night.

Normally speaking, there some wedding celebrations that still practice the European norm such as those who would have their celebration for more hours or more days, and this happen particularly in Ireland. So, if you are already thinking of attending an Irish wedding celebration, then you have be ready to witness a special kind of excitement.

Irish wedding traditions are into social importance rather than being intimate. People in Ireland believe that something good would happen if they would follow the right norm and traditions that they have. Their heritage has become part and connected with their kind of living. It would give more meaning to the kind of life that they are living for.

It is the stronghold of their living.

Getting Unique Irish Gifts From My Most Memorable Experience

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

Having several months in Ireland for a digital photography travel has been by far the most fascinating part of my personal career. From Dublin to Cork, I have taken shots of stunning landscapes no one may find anywhere else. Besides the magnificent scenery, I have also taken pictures of castles and landmarks that are unique to Ireland. Thus, it is now time to get me several unique Irish gifts.

Throughout my several months’ vacation in St. Patrick, I have also immersed myself into their tradition and culture. I started to love Guinness and have dabbled in their customary dancing and I may now audition for Riverdance. I have learned to like and enjoy local songs. Whether it is mainstream like U2 or The Corrs or independent artists like Glen Hansard, Irish music definitely offers a lot to express.

My two month Irish sojourn is about to end. As much as I would like to extend my stay here I cannot because of a lot of commitments I have back home. I do not plan on leaving Ireland without bringing a bit of it with me. And I cannot wait to share my experience with everybody. Aside from telling them wonderful stories of my stay here, I plan to bring them unique Irish gifts.

The first on the checklist is the flag of Ireland. I began to love the country- the tradition and the citizens. One method of presenting my respect and admiration for this beautiful nation is to carry the flag and proudly show this in my room. I have discovered, though, that it can surely be customized. What I will certainly want is an Irish flag then I may have my Irish friends’ signature embroidered on it.

Guinness. The wine which I have thoroughly loved with brand new friends. Any thing that has a Guinness logo on it will likely be fine for me. A mug, a shirt or a bag will do. I can actually start my own Guinness products assortment. A friend already presented me with a Guinness magnets and keychain, now all I have to do is search for more merchandise to bring with me home.

I found 100% Merino wool Shamrock throw that could just be perfect during a cold night time. It could be like taking some the Irish good fortune with me every where I go. The dimensions are sufficient to snuggle in or I can lay it down in picnics or star gazing fun. The style evokes traditional Irish myth, homeland and delight.

Among my treasured spots in Ireland will be the Claddagh. It was previously a fishing community, a location near to the center of Galway city, in which the Corrib River meets Galway Shore. Although the place is famous for its Claddagh ring, a band showing two clasped palms holding a crowned heart that symbolizes love, solidarity and respect. I will surely be getting home with me the Claddagh travel journal. It is going to remind me of this beautiful place wherever I go. Now this is your unique Irish gift.

I guess I will be bringing a lot of Irish pieces with me back home. I will also be giving my friends other unique Irish gifts like shamrock fridge magnets and keychains. I will also give some people diecast Irish souvenir bus, book of kells merchandise like scarf and books and Irish dancer rag dolls. Most importantly, what I will be bringing and sharing with them are the joy and memories of my stay in Ireland. And the hope that they too will travel and experience the beautiful island nation.

If you have been to Ireland but didn’t have unique irish gifts with you then you might have missed half of your life. Check out more information about celtic festivals at mycelticinspiration.com.
