BCBG Shoes – Spring 2010 – What’s Hot and What’s Not

Friday, February 5th, 2010

While you’re probably in midst of the latest diet craze and trying desperately to stick with a new gym routine (me too!), it’s also that time of year when we all start to dream about the hottest new sandals and other shoe trends for spring 2010. This article is a quick hit list of whats here to stay and what you can give to your neighborhood goodwill in spring 2010.

Here to Stay:

1. Sky High Platforms: You might have bought them in the fall, so keep them handy for spring 2010. They’re a tad more toned down than the studded and buckled heels of the past seasons. They’re rich and beautiful, but also delicate, feminine and powerful.

2. Slouchy Boots: Tall or short, these boots are here to stay. The skinny jean is hanging on, so the slouchy boot is pretty much a part of the package. Just don’t try to get by with the chunky ones you bought a few years ago. Those are history, pick up a new pair.

3. The Tall Leather Riding Boot: Not just for the elite equestrian anymore, these look sophisticated and either casual or dressy depending on your outfit. Pick a simple high quality brand.

4. The Strappy Sandal: It’s ever evolving, but always here to stay. It’s moving up the ankle with it’s wider bands and sometimes even extending up the calf. Some look like booties with cutouts and some look like a gladiator of years past with an added heel.

5. The Suede Pump: Another sky high trend that’s here to stay. They’re in rich blues and purples and everywhere right now. They’ve got a simple but beautifully executed platform at the front and a sky high heel in the back.

What’s On it’s Way OUT:

1. Cowboy Boots: Kick em to the curb lone ranger. You’ve seen what Brit Brit looks like when they photograph her at Target in them.

2. Chunky Heeled Boots: I’ve said it before, but the chunky heel is so far gone. Some of you are holding on, but please just let go. They may be comfy, but they’re OUT.

My Predictions:

1. The thigh high boots are going to get higher and more crazy seeming. We’ll get used to it though and boots will just end up attached to leggings like its the most normal thing in the world.

2. The Crazy Alexander McQueen Shoes: They were all the talk of the fashion world last season and this season we’ll see them toned down a tad to accommodate those of us that still find walking to be mandatory.

3. Comfort: YES! It’s trending over the years and will continue. It started with Uggs and moved on to leggings, but we’ll also see it in the shoe world with comfortable wedges!
