My Dream Of Owning A Boba Fett Costume
Back in the school yard at break time, me and the rest of the guys loved to play Star Wars. This was after the ‘first’ trilogy – I’m not that young. Although most of the good guys wanted to be roughneck privateer Han Solo, or at a pinch, Luke Skywalker, I always wanted to be lone wolf bounty killer, Boba Fett. I wasn’t a bad boy – otherwise I would have been Darth Vader, I wanted to be Boba Fett, and have a Boba Fett costume.
Sorry, but I’m one of those people who thinks that the fourth Star Wars film is the first one. Of course, Boba Fett first appeared (chronologically at least) in The Empire Strikes Back.
It was when the Millenium Falcon was being pursued by the Imperial Fleet, and the good guys had the bright idea of hiding behind the command tower of the fleet ship and running away with the garbage. Vader realizes that his imperial soldier’s mentality is a bit stunted by all the rules they have to follow and hires a few bounty hunters as they are able to think outside of the box. One of the brighter hunters is Boba Fett.
Later on, the goodies are captured, and Fett gets Han Solo after he has been placed into carbon freeze in Lando’s mining city in the clouds. We find out that Fett works for the intergalactic gangster Jabba the Hutt, who does not take kindly to being owed money. Fett does the right thing by bringing back the frozen Solo to be used to cover up a nasty stain on the wall that Hutt was hiding from the neighbors. Later, Solo’s buddies mount a daring escape, and we say au revoir to Fett as he plummets into the open jaws of a Sarlacc out in the desert.
The prequels later explain that Boba is Jango Fett’s boy. Jango Fett was used as a model for a Kiwi clone army. We see later why young Boba does not totally love Jedi as they cause his dad’s head and body to part ways.
Not many people know that Boba Fett came from initial concept drawings for the boss of bad, Darth Vader. Vader’s character then evolved more into a dark lord, although Fett remained, taking more of a back seat, but still being quite a sinister and charismatic character.
The best thing about the Boba Fett costume is the utility armor. Battle-scarred and beaten, the hotch-potch of armored parts looks hand-made on a number of different planets. Although Boba is handy with an old-fashioned galactic blaster, his multi-functional armor contains an unbelievable number of goodies, such as close-combat weapons, and utilities, such as grappling gear, rocket pack, utility belt, and armored spikes, in case he should fall from a smooth, rounded surface.
Boba Fett has an extremely wide fan base (Fettishists) on the internet. One of the top sites has over 1000 unique visits per day coming to learn and share their love of one of the most popular bad guys on the internet. Beat that, Darth!
